Sean Astin & Costars at Fandom Fest

Luke Perry
Three of Sean's former costars were also at Fright Night Film Festival Fandom Fest in Louisville last weekend: Luke Perry from the Showtime series "Jeremiah," John Rhys-Davies from "The Lord of the Rings," and Corey Feldman from "The Goonies." (Of course, all these actors are known for many more wonderful movies and shows!) I had the opportunity to talk quite a bit with all three, and they were all delightful!

The Last Empire
Sean's role as Mister Smith is one of my favorites, and I was keen to meet Luke Perry. Poor Luke had a bad cold and didn't spend a lot of time at his autograph table, but I was fortunate enough to be the first one there when he came down on Friday. He signed my copy of a 30-page mockup of the never-completed graphic novel "Jeremiah: The Last Empire," which was also signed by author Andrew Foley, and in 2009, by Sean. Luke was fascinated by the book, and I emailed the full script to his handler. You can see a few of the completed pages of the graphic novel at DrunkDuck.com.

On Sunday, Luke was moved into the same room as Sean, and they took a few minutes to chat for a bit.

On Saturday and Sunday, I had the good fortune to spend most of my time hanging out between a hobbit and a dwarf!!

This was my usual view: over John Rhy-Davies right shoulder!

If ever you have the opportunity to stand beside him for a photo, expect to be tickled, regardless of your gender!

For a while, John was in a stern Dwarvish mood.

Then I helped him set up his brand new MacBook Air, and he cheered right up!

John is totally charming and friendly, and a real raconteur. It was a joy just listening to his voice! He spent several minutes with each fan, discussing a wide range of topics from global warming to filming anecdotes, even dropping hints of an upcoming project with a former costar. He gave this young authoress advice on writing, taking about 10 minutes with her.

When it came time for the photo op with Sean and John, it was hard to keep a straight face. Yes, John was tickling me!

[As I reported earlier, pay no attention to the rumors that John suggested he might have a role in "The Hobbit." He was kidding around. He smiled and winked a lot that weekend!]

Corey Feldman's table was on the other side of Sean's and a little further away, so I didn't get as much of an opportunity to talk with him. But when I did, he was always warm and cordial, and I got a lovely hug from him at the end of the day. All of the guys were great huggers, except Luke, who worried about spreading his cold.

Corey did eventually take his shades off!

Sean and Corey had a long conversation in the photo op room.

I did have extensive opportunities to see Sean interacting with each of the others, both individually and in a group with John and Corey before their Q&A session. I saw warmth and camaraderie and a good bit of gentle teasing between them all.

More posts with photos of Sean, details of the Q&A session and the wonderful trip to the Louisville Zoo will be coming up shortly!
